If you’re planning on giving a heart-shaped box of chocolates or a bouquet of roses to your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day, we’re sorry to break it to you, but that’s just not going to cut it. Sure, these might be the usual go-to gifts for the holiday, but this is 2021 — and things have changed.
These days, you can buy chocolate beer bottles and even chocolate video game controllers. And when it comes to flowers? Don’t even bother because you can now give romantic food arrangements — including bouquets of pickles!
The idea for the pickle bouquet comes from Boston-based pickle company Grillo’s Pickles.
“We’ve always had fun involving pickles around all types of holidays and we felt pickles needed a little more love during Valentine’s Day,” said Travis Grillo, CEO and founder of Grillo’s Pickles. “Not only is a pickle bouquet more beautiful than a dozen red roses, and healthier than a standard box of chocolate, it’s also far more creative.”
Along with a variety of pickles, Grillo’s Pickles also included some extras in the bouquet — like garlic and dill — to represent the company’s 100-year-old family recipe of using just seven ingredients.
While assembled bouquets are not for sale, you can order a make-your-own pickle bouquet kit from Grillo’s, which includes an empty pickles container, wooden skewers, floral foam, tissue paper, artificial floral filler and a recipient card — basically all the non-perishable items required for a pickle bouquet. All you have to do is pick up your favorite flavor of pickles and arrange the spears and pickle chips into a bouquet shape using the skewers.
Next, garnish the bouquet with the floral fillers, tissue paper and your choice of tasty extras, like peppers, garlic and dill. Easy peasy!
If you’d rather give a bouquet of edible items that aren’t pickles, there are plenty of other clustered goodies you can gift your loved ones this holiday. How about a bouquet of chicken nuggets or a bouquet of Reese’s candies? Or you can always send a literal handful of baked goods with a bouquet of doughnuts from Harry & David.
