If you need proof that dogs are entirely devoted to their owners, the story of Turkish pooch Boncuk is sure to cement the “man’s best friend” theory. Boncuk (pronounced “Bon-DJUK”) spent no less than six days waiting outside a hospital where her sick owner was being treated.

Boncuk followed the ambulance that took Cemal Şentürk to a hospital in the city of Trabzon in northeastern Turkey on January 14. Thereafter, the dedicated pet returned to the hospital every day. According to Şentürk,’s daughter, Aynur Egeli, she would take Boncuk back home, but the dog would simply run away and go back to the facility.

“She comes every day around 9 a.m. and waits until nightfall. She doesn’t go in,” a hospital security guard told local news agency DHA, as reported by the AP. “When the door opens she pokes her head inside.”

On Jan. 20, after almost a week, Boncuk was finally reunited with her beloved owner when he was pushed outside in a wheelchair for a brief meeting.

“She’s very used to me. And I miss her, too, constantly,” Şentürk told DHA.

Here’s a video from Medical Park International Hospital’s Facebook page, showing the faithful pup waiting, followed by the two coming together again at last.

The post notes that the patient was able to communicate with Boncuk through the hospital window to comfort her during the days he was confined. And luckily, Şentürk was discharged from the hospital later the day of the reunion and could go home with Boncuk.

Murat Ercan, the hospital’s international patient center director, told CNN that hospital staff were won over by Şentürk’s canine BFF during her stakeout, even feeding and caring for her while she was on the grounds.

“Cemal Şentürk has been with Boncuk for nine years and he also stated that he missed her a lot during his stay at the hospital,” Ercan said. “After he was cleared to go out he met his dog at the hospital gate. Boncuk has behaved really sweet during the six days and has managed to capture the love and affection of the whole staff.”

We love this story! Good dog, Boncuk.
